Barack Obama, the Secret Service, and ‘the plane full of cannabis’ – Telegraph
A pair of F-16s were scrambled to divert the Cessna aircraft after it entered the airspace of Marine One, the military helicopter ferrying the American president during a trip to California.
The small plane was forced to land at Long Beach airport, just south of Los Angeles at around 11am, where it was met by police.
A search of the aircraft uncovered 640 ounces of cannabis, the Associated Press reported, a motherlode worth around $160,000 (£100,000).
The unfortunate pilot and at least one passenger were handed to over to local police after being interviewed by US federal agents. The pilot has not been identified and it is not known whether they have been charged with any crime.
The US Secret service said Mr Obama was never in any danger during the incident.

BY JOHN DOYLE AND ROCCO PARASCANDOLA
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
Singer Robin Thicke was arrested in Manhattan for marijuana possession, the Daily News has learned.
The award-winning R&B crooner was arrested at 12:25 p.m. by patrol officers who saw him smoking a joint while sitting in a Cadillac Escalade near 3rd Ave. and E. 21st St., close to Gramercy Park.
“He wasn’t driving,” a police source said. “He was sitting in the car. He was arrested and a small amount of marijuana was recovered on him.”
Thicke, 34, was in the Escalade with another person, the police source said, but Thicke was the only one arrested and then charged with possession of marijuana.
The singer was amiable throughout the arrest, another source said.
“He was taking pictures with the cops,” the source said. “They were coming over to him and getting autographs.”
It wasn’t clear where Thicke was heading, though he did provide police with a lower East Side address.
Thicke is married to actress Paula Patton.
The singer’s fifth studio album, “Love After War,” was released in December.
Thicke’s father is actor Alan Thicke, who is best known for playing Jason Seaver in the long-running sitcom “Growing Pains.”
The younger Thicke’s spokesman declined to comment.

Judge Arrested for Marijuana Possession Releases Statement
The Guadalupe County judge arrested in College Station for marijuana possession was supposed to talk to the media today.
This is 58 year old Michael Wiggins.
He’s been the Guadalupe County judge since 2007.
Most recently though, he was arrested while attending a county judge and commissioners conference at the College Station Hilton Hotel for possession of marijuana.
Judge Wiggins released a statement saying;
“At this time, I am working to resolve the issues in Brazos County. Upon completion, I will provide a full public disclosure of the events that have transpired.”
CSPD reps say, a bellman told hotel security about smelling pot on the fifth floor.
A police officer knocked on Wiggins’ door and asked if there was weed in the room.
Wiggins allegedly pointed to a duffel bag where the officer found rolling papers, a grinder and less than two ounces of marijuana.
Police say Wiggins admitted it was his.
He was arrested and released on a $3,000 bond.
Wiggins is a retired trooper and DPS sergeant, where he would have had to submit to random drug testing and yearly evaluations.
Reps with the Guadalupe County Commissioners Office say all employees are drug tested before they begin working.
In Brazos County, no one, is “high” above the law.
According to Guadalupe County, the only employees subjected to random drug testing, once hired, are those working for the Department of Transportation.

PBS documentary sheds light on marijuana’s cancer-killing properties | Raw Replay
The cancer-killing properties of marijuana were the subject of discussion in a PBS documentary that aired this week to little media fanfare.
While using marijuana to kill cancer may sound like a wild claim to some, it struck Dr. Prakash Nagarkatti as a great idea. In his studies as professor of pathology and microbiology for the University of South Carolina, he tested synthetic cannabis drugs on cancer cells and developed a formula that was able to completely eradicate cancer cells in a test tube.
