Marijuana Vending Machines Now Available In Los Angeles

Awesome. Medical marijuana vending machines will be popping up in Los Angeles soon. This won’t directly affect me, as I don’t live in California, but it’s another step in the right direction of marijuana legalization.

Here is the story from SignOnSanDiego.com:

THE FUTURE IS HERE: Pot vending machines

In Japan, vending machines distribute beer. In the future, public booths will aid in the act of suicide. And in Los Angeles, marijuana comes from an ATM.

The proper acronym is AVM, Anytime Vending Machine. L.A. is now home to two 24-hour pot AVMs, one on Melrose and another on La Cienega. But don’t head for the 5 just yet. You’re still required to jump through all the regulatory hoops — the doc’s OK, namely. The AVM attendant then approves your prescription, takes your fingerprints and hands you a prepaid credit card that stores your dosage allowance and flavor of choice.

But keep in mind: in California, just because you can get most any hokey doctor to say it’s fine for you to smoke your sickness away doesn’t mean you can’t be fired for it.

On a side note, the San Diego medicinal marijuana clinic’s Web site says it has temporarily moved to the Orange County line because the county’s board of supervisors hasn’t gotten around to implementing Proposition 215 because it violates federal law.

Which is why we dedicate the following song to you, San Diego County board of supervisors.
